Apprentice, Cleo Gatting is recognised at Exeter College Awards

Cleo Gatting - Technical & Professional Apprentice of the Year

A civil engineer on our apprenticeship scheme has been recognised for her hard work and honoured with the Technical & Professional Apprentice of the Year award.

Cleo Gatting, 21, was named the apprentice of the year at the Virtual Exeter College Apprentice & Employer awards 2020.

Cleo joined DCC in 2017 after completing A-Levels Chemistry, Biology and Graphic Design at Exeter College.

Since then she has become an integral part of her team, earning their respect for her hard work and diligence.

Her first project was helping to design a pedestrian island, and since then she has progressed onto larger schemes.

Her most recent work has been on the A3121 Safer Roads Fund project, where she has helped to design several junctions.

Cleo said:

“I want to thank the college for nominating me, DCC for giving me the chance to earn these qualifications and my team who have supported me over the last few years. I’m honoured to have received this award.”

Anne Downing, Senior Workforce Development Advisor, said:

“Cleo fully deserves this award. Her work is of the highest standard and she always gives her best in every project she has worked on.”

Also at the awards, we won Large Employer of the Year for our approach to apprenticeships – which is all about providing high quality training and employment opportunities – with a 76% retention rate of apprentices gaining employment in the Council.
