National Apprenticeship Week 2022
National Apprenticeship Week 2022
National Apprenticeship Week 2022 is finally here and Jacky Wilson, Head of Human Resources has a message to all.
National Apprenticeship Week is an opportunity to celebrate the immense success of all our apprentices here at Devon County Council. Many started their apprenticeship programme during lockdown conditions with some ‘working from home’ at the outset of their apprenticeship. They have demonstrated just how resilient and resourceful they can be to get through it. My first message, therefore, is to say a big, big thank you to all our apprentices.
Our Apprenticeship Programmes
Although the last year has been a challenging year for us all, we have had fantastic success with our apprenticeship programmes. We currently offer over 70 different apprenticeship programmes ranging from Level 2 to 7, reflecting the huge breadth and diversity of the work that we do. As an example, our range includes the following apprenticeship programmes:
Cyber Security
Rehabilitation Officer
Visually Impaired Apprenticeship (ROVI))
Social Work
Construction Site Engineering
Technician
Civil Engineer
Digital & Technology
Solutions
Associate Project Manager
Assistant Accountant
Teaching Assistant
The Future of our Apprenticeship Programmes
Looking forward, it’s really important for us to focus on
the future development of our workforce. That’s why we will continue to invest
in our apprenticeship programme and diversify even further. We want to ensure that we have the skilled workforce
that we expect we will need in the future. We will also continue to work
closely with partner organisations to identify different ways to fund our
apprenticeships and provide our people with the best support. The ‘levy transfer’ scheme is one great
example of how we can work together to do just that.
Please remember that apprenticeship programmes are now open
to all age groups from 16 upwards. There
is no upper age limit! (One of our current apprentices is 62). So, if you meet
the eligibility criteria, it could be you starting on a new apprenticeship programme
in the future.
If this sounds like something you would like to get
involved with, then please contact the apprenticeship team to enquire about the
following schemes;
Step In, (new employees)
Next Step (all existing
employees)
Step Forward (aged 16-25 -
Care Leavers)
Our apprenticeship programmes operate extremely efficiently
and effectively, due to the ongoing support of some key partners. In particular, I would like to thank our
County Councillors and various service areas, who sponsor and support an
apprentice, and our training provider network, for ensuring that quality
training is delivered to our highly valued apprentices.
Jacky Wilson
Head of HR, Devon County Council
