Cameron Robison - Civil Engineering Apprentice
Cameron Robison is a Civil Engineering Apprentice based in our Okehampton Neighbourhood Team.
As part of his apprenticeship, he is training to become a Neighbourhood Officer, the role includes dealing with enquiries regarding the highway. Cameron looks at enquiries that come in either from the public or from district, parish or county councillors and then if there is a problem he will create orders for the works to be done.
Cameron has been working for us for about ten months and is hoping to secure a permanent role with the authority. He heard about his apprenticeship through his mother who works at County Hall.
“I was having what was supposed to be a gap year and was working in a restaurant in Exeter. When I found out about this apprenticeship I decided that it would be a better choice for me than going to university.”
In his spare time Cameron is in a band that is aptly named Haytor! His brother Austin started the band when he left university and Cameron joined when he left sixth form. Cameron may be the youngest member of the band, but he has high aspirations for them.
“Before I joined, the band had released two singles, since then we have added an EP and this new single ‘Sirens’ to our discography. It has taken us roughly four months to complete this single from start to finish and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. We appreciate anyone who will take time to listen to our song and we hope you like it!”
“Unfortunately I’m not going to pretend there’s a story behind the name because there isn’t, haha. The band was already called Haytor before I joined last April. As far as I’m aware it was just a suggestion from my brother Austin, the lead singer, and the other band members thought it worked quite well, so it stuck! Austin now works for the authority too by the way!”
