DCC Step In Apprenticeship Scheme
The Devon County Council Apprenticeship Scheme began in 2006 to offer opportunities for young people to join the organisation. Since then, we have gone on to expand opportunities to
incorporate all ages, underrepresented groups and current staff members.
We
have a fantastic retention record with 76% of Step In apprentices successfully
securing a job in Devon County Council, 3% have moved onto further education at university and 21% have left to pursue new opportunities outside of the organisation.
With the Business Administration Apprenticeship, which has been running for over 13
years, we have a retention rate of over 80%. One of our apprentices started at 16 years of age as an
Office Support Apprentice and is now a Team Manager in Finance. We also have
apprentices who have progressed to a HR Adviser, Senior Procurement Officer,
Trading Standards Officer, Engineering Technician.
Our
civil engineering apprenticeship won Exeter College’s Award for the
Professional Studies Employer of the Year 2016/2017. In April 2018 we were
Employer of the Month at Exeter College, who said, “DCC employ a remarkable
number of apprentices, providing new entry level staff the best start to their
career and offering existing staff the chance to develop their skills. With
opportunities for a career and progression in over twelve apprenticeships, DCC
has one of the most impressive programmes in the region and truly is an
outstanding employer”.
