South West Apprenticeship Ambassador Network Conference

South West Apprentice Ambassadors

On Thursday 13th September employers and young ambassadors met at Taunton Rugby Club for the annual South West Apprenticeship Ambassador Network conference. The morning began with registration, refreshments and networking.

The day consisted of key note speakers, Jason Holt the chair of the National Apprenticeship Ambassador Network travelled down to speak about the bigger picture for the Apprenticeship Ambassador Network. We watched a celebration of success video for the South West created by Exeter College's Apprentice, the video can be found here: vimeo.com/289835366. We were thrilled to see Devon County Council success included in the video!

Following a refreshment break we heard from another key note speaker, Jamala Osman, National Apprenticeship Service Champion, who spoke about her apprenticeship story and how social media impacts on all businesses. We also heard from two Young Apprentice Ambassadors Toby and Liberty who presented their stories and showed their presentations they take into schools to speak to students about the benefits of apprenticeships.

After a lunch break we moved onto the workshops, there were five workshops on offer for Apprentices and Employers with the opportunity to attend two. Young Ambassadors had to attend a Public Speaking workshop which included tips on preparation, delivering a talk, engaging with an audience and building confidence. Employers Ambassadors could attend workshops on influencing quality apprenticeships training solutions to meet employer needs or social mobility, widening access to apprenticeships. The social mobility workshop was facilitated by our own Jo Fellows, HR Strategy Manager.

Both Employers and Young Ambassadors had the chance to attend workshops on either social media, promoting apprenticeships through the apprenticeship ambassador network or apprenticeship key messages for a public audience. The social media workshop was facilitated by previous key note speaker Jamala Osman, who is now a social media consultant, the workshop included discussions on what the 'AAN' social media strategy will look like, it's key messages and how to get involved with regions.

To end the day we had a summary, thanks and close.
