The National Apprenticeship Show 2018
The National Apprenticeship Show 31st Jan & 1st Feb 2018
The Apprenticeship Team and the volunteering Apprentices had a lot of fun over the two days at the National Apprenticeship Show. Abi visited the NHS stand for a game of operation and Ryan visited the Royal Navy stand where he took on the Fire Fighter challenge, 2 minutes to get the full uniform on!
The Apprentices also worked on their team work and communication skills, Alison and Charlotte visited the Army Jobs stand to take on the River Cross challenge. Using the white lines on the floor to guide them the girls had to collect wooden planks and make their way across the river only standing on the stones. The two Planning Technicians learnt a valuable lesson, 'sometimes you need to take a step backwards in order to take 3 steps forwards.'
The Apprenticeship Team arrived at WestPoint at 08:30am on Wednesday morning to set up the Devon County Council stand, the event started at 09:30am. The amount of students who showed interest in Apprenticeships at Devon County Council was overwhelming. The Apprenticeship Team even had to make a phone call back to the office to send out more materials as we ran out of information leaflets by noon!

During the two days at the National Apprenticeship Show Devon County Council had two seminar slots. We had a great turn out for the Thursday morning slot, presenting the presentation was Tracey Mills & Jackie Salter. The presentation gave a brief outline to the opportunities available and some of the benefits of working for Devon County Council.
Amy Kyme and Sean Mills came along to speak about their experiences of being an Apprentice at Devon County Council from the Business Admin and Civil Engineering side. They each spoke about why they chose to become an Apprentice, the recruitment process at Devon County Council, what they have been involved in, where they are now and their plans for the future. The presentation ended with the chance for students to ask the Apprenticeship Team any questions about the scheme. The Wednesday presentation team consisted of Jo Fellows, Anne Downing, Amy Kyme and Tom Satterly.
The Apprenticeship Team will next be attending the Apprenticeship Expo at Exeter College on the 8th March during National Apprenticeship Week.
